Council Services:

Book Awards

Children can vote for their favourite book in the Lincolnshire Young People’s Book Awards.

After weeks of voting, children across the county have selected their finalists for this year’s competition. The award is split into two age categories, 9 to 11 year-olds and 12 to 14 year-olds, with just five books making each shortlist. Children now have until 1 June to vote for their favourite.

The awards are designed to encourage children and young people to read and use their local libraries, where the books are available. Those taking part will find their reading and writing skills will benefit greatly and they will have the fun of reading some excellent books too.

Cllr Patricia Bradwell, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said:

“The awards are not only a great way of encouraging young people to take pleasure in reading, but also help develop their skills in debating and appreciating stories.

“Anyone aged between 9 and 14 years of age can vote, as long as they either live or go to school in Lincolnshire, or use the county’s library services. You can vote online, at your local library or through your school. You can also send us your comments and book reviews as well as artwork.”

The initiative ties in with Rooted in Reading, the local reading promotion project running in schools and libraries across Lincolnshire.
