Contacting parish and town councils
Some of the larger parish and town councils now have an office which is open to the public, an address and telephone number in the directory, and also a website.
However the majority of parish councils do not have a separate office but utilise the private address of their clerk.
The appointed clerk may change quite frequently for various reasons, and the post may be vacant for periods whereby the duties are being undertaken by the chairman, a councillor or another clerk. It is therefore very difficult to maintain an accurate database.
The address of the parish council office, if there is one, or the clerk to the council if there is no office, will normally be found on the notice board in the parish. There is also a list retained by electoral officers in the relevant district council which are updated on a regular basis.
