Short Breaks

Short Breaks is the new name for respite.  It’s now law that all authorities have a duty to provide short breaks for children and young people who are disabled and/or sensory impaired living in their area.  This comes under The Short Breaks for Carers of Disabled Children Regulations 2011, which means that there is a legal duty upon local authorities to provide short breaks for children and young people who are disabled and their parent/carers.

This short dvd tells you about the journey that Lincolnshire have taken to achieve a range of short break activities.

The Short Breaks initiative in Lincolnshire has gone from strength to strength with the provision of a fantastic range of activities for young people who are disabled and/or sensory impaired; this ensures breaks for parents and carers; there are also a range of information leaflets available about services, there is information about equipment hire, subsidised holidays and there are training opportunities for parents/carers and professionals.

The comprehensive short breaks programme provides children and young people new opportunities away from their main carer, and it gives the main carer a break from their caring responsibilities.
