Transport to College
You must apply for transport to college for each year of study.
All post 16 students who are in education and entitled to transport have to pay a contribution towards transport. This includes students with a Statement of Special Needs, families on income support and other benefits and young people in care. For the academic year 2011/12, this is £296 or three installments of £101, a total of £303 (this will include an administration charge).
For the academic year 2012/2013 the contribution will rise to £390 or three installments of £132, a total of £396 (inclusive of the administration charge). You can now pay your contribution online here.
If you are on a low income it may be possible to spread the installments further. Please contact the Customer Service Centre for advice about this.
Important notice for parents, carers and students:
In September 2011, the County Council had to reluctantly make some changes to the home to college transport policy. The home to college transport policy is reviewed annually; however the following changes came into effect in September 2011:
- Students will only be entitled to transport to their designated college subject to this being more than three miles from their home address. The exceptions to this are students with learning difficulties where the nearest college cannot meet their needs.
- The designated college means (in most cases) the college nearest to your home. Transport will not be agreed to any alternative college even if the course is not available at the nearest. The only exceptions are:
- Students with recognised learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LLDD) who need to attend a specialist college or where the nearest college does not meet your needs as agreed by the LLDD Panel
- Students taking Level 2 or above Land Based courses (as listed below) at specialist colleges where the home to the nearest college journey does not exceed 45 miles and the course is not available at a nearer college. Courses for which transport provision will be considered are:
- Agriculture
- Environmental Studies
- Horticulture
- Arboriculture
- Large animal Management
- Students taking certain courses only available at Lincoln Access to Music. - No transport will be provided to a college less than three miles from the home address; neither will transport be provided to a pick up point (e.g. a bus stop) that is less than three miles from the students address.
- In these circumstances transport will not be provided even if the route between the home address and the college or pick up point has been designated unsuitable by the County Council for children of statutory school age to walk. In all cases students will be responsible for their own travel arrangements and costs.
If your application is successful you will be sent a letter together with a payment form.
Transport is only provided at each end of the normal college day.
