Types of Primary Academies and Schools

There are different terms used to describe primary academies and schools.

  • Infant - accept children between the ages of four (Reception Class) and seven (Year 2), after which children transfer to either a junior school or a primary school.
  • Junior - accept children between the ages of seven (Year 3) and eleven (Year 6).
  • Primary - accept children between the ages of four (Reception Class) and eleven (Year 6).
  • All through - these schools accept children from the ages of four until they finish full time education. Some may have ‘sixth form’ provision (Year 12 and 13).

In Lincolnshire there is only currently one all through school, this is The Priory Witham Academy in Lincoln. The academy also has a nursery class.

Some infant and primary schools also have nursery provision. For further information please contact the schools direct or visit their website.
