The Ethnic Minority Achievement Support (EMAS) Service and Traveller Education Service (TES) can help you work towards meeting the duty to promote community cohesion in your school.
The two services can offer:
- INSET and Consultation. Your school will learn what community cohesion is and how to record current good practice in relation to the community cohesion agenda. You will also learn how to identify gaps in relation to community cohesion and produce an action plan which is as recommended by Ofsted in the 2009 guidance.
- Resources, Ideas and Websites. The services will guide you towards a range of materials and resources that can be used in the classroom to support community cohesion particularly around teaching, learning and curriculum
- Funding. The EMAS Service has been in a position to allocated small amounts of funding to support community cohesion projects subject to criteria and availability. Information on funding for 2010/11 which will be sent to each school in spring 2010.
- Links with Ethnic Minority communities. EMAS and TES have accurate information about a range of communities because of their strong links with the minority groups. The services may be able to help your school establish links to support the engagement aspect of community cohesion as well as awareness and understanding outlined in the teaching. learning and curriculum focus.
If you would like to know more about any of the above please contact Wing Sze Liu at the EMAS Centre on 01427 787190.
