Lincoln: The Lincoln Local Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)
Denomination:
Quakers
Services:
Worships on: Sundays at 11:00. Who are we? Do we (as some people think) wear strange hats and plain clothes and hold puritanical ideas? Not any more. We are a group of ordinary people who feel that we belong together as a family sharing values based on a common Christian heritage, but excluding nobody whatever their spiritual beliefs Our full official name is: THE RELIGIOUS SOCIETY OF FRIENDS - most people refer to us simply as 'Friends'. What are our beliefs? We believe: * that there is something of God's spirit in all human beings * that this spirit can be known and is at work in all creation * that the truth behind words is more important than a formal statement of belief * that we should be honest and fair in all our dealings * that we should try to apply the teaching of Jesus to everyday life. What do Quakers do? Quakers are well known for their contribution to international peace and understanding and are committed to finding alternatives to violent behaviour. Quakers are also well known for their social concern and are involved with issues such as homelessness, mental health, the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse and criminal justice. Quakers have been pioneers in education and penal reform.
