Council Services:

Nursing Care

This type of care offers a higher level of care and medical attention and also includes personal care. Generally the nursing care element of this type of care home is paid by the NHS. Currently this is a flat rate of £108.70. A specially trained nurse will assess your nursing needs to determine what level of nursing care the NHS will fund (this is called your nursing determination).

In order to comply with the National Framework for NHS Continuing Health Care (CHC) you should be screened or assessed for CHC before a nursing determination is undertaken. This means someone completing the Healthcare Checklist (screening tool) with you. If you then need a full CHC assessment, this should be done before a decision to award funded nursing care is made. You can contact the nurse case management teams for your area at the Primary Care Trusts (PCT).

The personal care element of the fee is not paid for by the NHS and must be paid for by yourself if your capital/savings exceed £23,250, or with help from Lincolnshire County Council, subject to the rules as described above (see Residential care).

Financial figures will change in 2011. For more information you can use the NHS Choices/Carers Direct on http://www.nhs.uk/CarersDirect/guide/practicalsupport/Pages/Overview.aspx
