What does this mean for Adult Social Care Staff?
All research including reviews, evaluations, quality surveys and consultation needs to be approved through the research governance process before being undertaken. This includes consultation undertaken with service users, carers and staff.
Why?
The Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care (March 2001) stipulates the central purpose of research governance is to protect participants (researcher/service user/sample group) ensuring there are clear arrangements to identify and manage any risks associated with a study.
How do I get approval?
You need to complete the application form following the guidance notes and send to the Research Governance Lead for verification and submission to the Research Governance Panel for approval.
How long does it take?
Once the completed application is received and verified for approval, a decision should be made within 2 weeks.
Therefore if you are going to undertake a research project, you need to add the additional 2 weeks at the beginning of your research timetable for the approval process.
Where do I go for help?
If you want advice on your application or assistance on the process, you can contact the Research Governance Lead on (01522) 554223.
