The Local Government (Records) Act 1962 empowered local authorities to provide archive services for the public.
Local authorities are, therefore, major employers of archivists, archive conservators and other archive service staff. There are also many archives linked to the higher education sector, private museums, libraries, businesses and other organisations, many of which are also open to the public. Vacancies for many of the archivists' and some archive conservators' posts are often advertised through the Society of Archivists.
Lincolnshire Archives is run by Lincolnshire County Council and therefore job vacancies are advertised on the County Council's website, in the press and professional journals where appropriate.
If you are considering working or volunteering in archives, staff at Lincolnshire Archives are pleased to speak with you to explain the work involved at the site. Please contact the Collections Team Leader (Research and Information), via our Customer Service Centre on 01522 782040, to arrange a visit.
