The County Council is taking a lead in the national energy drive to use fuel from forestry, crops and waste (Biomass), with its Lincolnshire Green Heat Scheme (LIGHT).
Since its launch in autumn 2005 the Lincolnshire Green Heat (LiGHT) scheme has played a significant role in establishing biomass in Lincolnshire. Biomass ( fuel from forestry, crops and waste) reduces carbon emissions by up to 90% and supports local farming and forestry and the potential savings could be the equivalent nationally of taking 3.25 million cars off the roads.
Some 200 organisations have benefitted from its advice and support and 24 schemes have been offered grant aid. By the end of the financial year it is expected that there will be 25 biomass projects completed in Lincolnshire. These range from small schemes heating a few buildings to large schemes providing heat to hospitals, greenhouses and historic buildings.
LiGHT provides the following services:
- Telephone advice and guidance on all aspects of wood and biomass heating
- Individual advice on suitable heating systems
- Site visits to assess viability
- Feasibility studies
- Training
- Visits to existing heating installations
- Advice on fuel production for farmers and wood product manufacturers
- Presentations to interest groups and meetings
- Capital grant assistance to heating system purchasers
The LIGHT programme is provided by Lincolnshire County Council and Lincolnshire Enterprise and is project managed by Rural Energy Trust Ltd, Manor Farm, Owston, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 8DH
