Carers don’t always see themselves as carers. Often they’re unaware of the range of support services that can help them in their caring role.
We have a Carers Team who offer advice, information and support to carers.
The Local and National Picture
There are approximately 66,000 carers in Lincolnshire (source: 2001 Census). Caring is needed in around one in every five families.
There are over five million adult carers in the UK. Over one million of these look after somebody for more than 50 hours a week.
There are estimated to be 150,000 young carers in Britain.
A young carer
- A person under the age of 18 who has responsibility for the care of a parent or family member.
- They may be sole carer or may support another family member.
- The cared for person may have a long term illness or disability, perhaps as the result of substance misuse.
- The caring role may be physical, emotional or both.
How can we help?
Many people who look after relatives or friends are happy to do so.
However, we still provide support to allow you to continue providing care or to change the situation if you wish.
Many carers aren’t aware of the assistance available.
We recognise that caring can have a major impact on your life. We have a team who can address your issues and needs.
The Carers Team
A countywide service specifically for carers that, in partnership with voluntary agencies, aims to provide:
- Carers Assessments
- Advice
- Information
- Signposting/Referrals
- Emotional support
Carers Assessment
During the Carers Assessment, we work with you to decide what support would be most helpful in your caring role.
We provide a wide range of services for carers and people being cared for. Many of these services are provided directly by us or through other agencies supported by us.
