Adoption

- be flexible and reflective thinkers who are prepared to acknowledge how they may need to alter their approach to better meet a child’s needs
- be open to seek and receive professional support where appropriate
- accept and respect a child’s family history
- talk openly with the child about adoption and share information throughout childhood
- promote the child’s identity needs in terms of culture and ethnicity
- understand how a child feels about being adopted, how this may change over time and how behaviour may be affected
- Appreciate how abuse, separation and loss can have an impact on a child’s development
- Be good at listening
- Be willing to support a child to grow and develop into a young adult
We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who have experience in dealing with the following;
- Children with learning disabilities
- Children with extra needs
- Mental health issues
- Challenging behaviour
- Sibling groups and multiples (I.e. twins, triplets etc)
