Apply for a birth certificate

The person whose birth certificate you wish to apply for must have been born within Lincolnshire, excluding North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

If the certificate relates to someone who was born outside Lincolnshire, contact the appropriate council to that area. If you don’t know the district, you can apply to the General Register Office.

The cost of a standard birth certificate is £10.

You will need to provide full information about the parents as well as your contact details.

When will I receive my certificate?

There are two options when ordering:

  • Express certificate service:: Order online or by telephone. This is our same day collection or next day delivery service, if ordered by noon. 
  • Standard certificate service: Order online, by telephone or by post. We aim to dispatch your order by 2nd class post within five working days. 

Births registered before 1837

Civil registration started on 1 July 1837. Before this date, the church kept records for births, deaths and marriages.
