Council Services:

Book a renewal of vows ceremony

This ceremony is for any married couple that wishes to celebrate renewing their marriage vows.

Often these ceremonies are associated with a special anniversary but they are just as appropriate for couples at any stage of in their relationship.

Many couples that have held their marriage or civil partnership abroad choose to renew their vows in a special event held for family and friends who were unable to attend. It is sometimes particularly relevant to those who have been through a period which put a strain on their relationship but who wish to celebrate their renewed commitment to each other.

It does not matter if you do not live in the area where you want your ceremony to be held but we request that you book a minimum of six weeks prior to the ceremony for administration purposes.

Couple who wish to have a religious ceremony or blesssing should contact their local church or religious community.

Renewal of vows ceremonies can be held at registration offices, licensed venues and public buildings with a private function room.

Renewal of vows ceremony arrangements

A ceremony co-ordinator will work with you to prepare everything for this special day and will draft the first script. You will have the opportunity to amend this to suit your needs and wishes.

Complimentary Order of Ceremony sheets will be prepared and printed by the co-ordinator and can include your photograph on the front. They will be available as a hand-out for your guests on ceremony day. A typical Order of Ceremony includes:

  • Music
  • Welcome and Introduction
  • Absent guests/remembrance of a loved one
  • Reading/poem
  • Reflections of your original ceremony day
  • The opportunity to mention any children of the marriage or grandchildren
  • Reading/poem
  • Renewal of vows and promises
  • Rededication of original rings or exchange or new rings
  • Hopes for your future
  • Final reading/poem
  • Closing of the ceremony
  • Music
  • Signing of the souvenir certificate and photo opportunity
  • Music

The co-ordinator will arrive at your chosen venue approximately 30 minutes before the ceremony is due to begin. The ceremony itself usually lasts about 25-30 minutes, depending on the options you wish to include.

On completion of the ceremony, a complimentary souvenir certificate is signed by the yourselves, the witnesses and the co-ordinator. A gold gilt commemorative certificate can also be purchased as a reminder of your ceremony. The order form is available upon request or can be downloaded below.

Unlike a marriage certificate, which is a legal document, renewal of vows ceremony certificates cannot be used as proof of identification. Neither is the ceremony legally binding on those who take part in it.

Renewal of vows ceremony fees

All ceremony fees charged by Lincolnshire registration and celebratory services will vary depending on the day of the week that you choose.

The fees at any venues will cover all administration before and on the day of your ceremony, the attendance of the co-ordinator on ceremony day and a souvenir certificate.

If the ceremony is held at a Lincolnshire registration office, the fees will include an additional cost for the use of the registration office ceremony room and gardens (if applicable) for approximately one and a half hours.

Additional fees charged by alternative venues are your responsibility.

A £30, non-refundable deposit is payable within seven days of booking and the balance is due six weeks before ceremony day.
