Births, deaths and ceremonies

Ceremonies and appointments

Registration marriage/ civil partnership ceremonies have been stopped on the  instructions of the Government on 23 March 2020. We will be contacting all effected ceremonies.

Non-urgent ceremony bookings and notice appointments have been suspended for at least four months.

Face to face registrations of death are no longer taking place, instead they will now be done over the telephone.

After receiving the cause of death certificate a registrar will call to gather the relevant information before posting out the death certificate.

Further support information is available in the Funeral advice and support area.

If you have an appointment to register a birth, you will receive notification it has been cancelled.

The 42 day requirement to register a birth has been relaxed and no action will be taken if you have not registered within that time frame.

You can make a claim for child benefit or universal credit prior to the birth being registered.

Anyone who is self-isolating under government guidelines or are displaying symptoms of Coronavirus, should not attend a register office, but ask others to register events on their behalf.

Families are also requested to contact the registration service as soon as possible if they are unable to attend an appointment already booked.
