Bereavement support

When someone passes away, particularly when their death is unexpected, it can be very emotionally challenging.

Given the current circumstances, some of the restrictions that have been put in place during the course of the year to prevent the spread of COVID-19, have led to significant changes to what we understand as the “normal” funeral process. We understand that ritual and tradition are very important to those survived by the loved one and we are trying our best to maintain normality and respect wishes wherever we can.

Ensuring your safety is enormously important to us, and the decisions we have made in order to do this have not been taken lightly. As a result of these efforts, please see below some changes that you might expect to encounter, during your preparations.

Nationally, we must refer you to the government guidance on how funerals will be conducted during these difficult times.

Your chosen funeral director will be able to discuss with you the different options that are available and how they have adapted to maintain their services during the pandemic, particularly as our countywide position may fluctuate between a tier system and national lockdown, and what that might look like at the point of your enquiry.

We sincerely apologise for the upset and disruption that this will inevitably cause to families in Lincolnshire. We ask for your understanding as we endeavour to maintain operations in the county, whilst keeping everyone as safe as possible.

Changes in council working practices due to COVID-19 has also led to changes in death registrations and funerals which you should be aware of.

We understand that losing a loved one can feel overwhelming, especially if the death was untimely and unexpected.

There are a number of organisations who can support you and your family during this time, including Cruse Bereavement Care (0808 808 1677) and The Compassionate Friends (0345 123 2304).

There are also a number of bereavement web sites which you may find helpful during this difficult time.
