Service Description

Drugs Awareness is a one hour session which aims to increase students’ knowledge, skill base and capacity to make rational and informed choices in regards to socialising and experimenting with drugs.  We explore:

  • the legality of drugs
  • drug driving and roadside testing techniques by police
  • antisocial behaviour
  • potential for addiction
  • physical and psychological effects
  • suggest strategies for keeping safe while having a good time.

This workshop also provides information on drinks spiking, consent, and the ways in which substance use can aid exploitation and grooming.  Small group activities challenge perceptions of the ‘stereotypical’ drug user and generates a discussion about attitudes towards drugs.

We use examples of young people whose experimentation with drugs resulted in fatalities and life changing brain injuries to demonstrate the risks involved with volatile substances.

Young people are sign posted to relevant services in their local area where they an access further information, help and advice if needed.

The Drugs Awareness workshop is highly interactive and involves use of group discussion, replica drug boxes, videos, small group activities and a highly visual PowerPoint Presentation.
