Availability

This workshop is:

  • available to all schools across Lincolnshire
  • appropriate for year 9 - 13 pupils
  • delivered to individual tutor groups or whole year groups
  • available to participate in Ace/Aspire Days
  • one hour long, unless otherwise stated, although can be extended with additional activities or shorted to fit lesson times
Benefits

The aims of the workshop are:

  • increase student’s awareness and knowledge of homophobia
  • how to recognise this in the behaviours, attitudes and language of other people as well as ourselves
  • look at the consequence of homophobic prejudice and bullying for both perpetrator and victim
  • look at laws around equality and inclusion
  • use high profile cases of homophobia to illustrate the negative impact
  • discuss the way in which media representations of LGBT issues reinforces homophobia is discussed
  • activities to explore social power and privilege
  • explore the term ‘normal’ in relation to families, marriage and children

A clear message is imparted to the students that whilst we are all allowed to have personal opinions, society, the law and future employers demand a respect of diversity.  It is anticipated that some students will develop a deeper level of empathy, and an ability to challenge homophobia.  They will have the confidence to seek out further help and support if they are directly affected.

Cost

£52.50 per tutor group. We are also available to deliver to youth groups and colleges, the cost of this will vary according to group size. Some workshops can be delivered free of charge if your setting meets our funding criteria.
