Introduction

One hour long workshop covering risky behaviour awareness for KS3 and 4 students.

This training could be used as evidence towards helping you achieve SMSC.

Outcomes

Core Theme 1 - Health and wellbeing

  • assessing and managing risks to health and to stay and keep others safe
  • identifying and accessing advice and support agencies, including local facilities
  • making informed choices about health and wellbeing matters including drugs, alcohol and tobacco

Service Description

Positive Health Lincolnshire is a provider of sexual health and wellbeing workshops across Lincolnshire.  We work in partnership with Lincolnshire Contraceptive and Sexual Health Service, Public Health Lincolnshire and Healthy Schools Lincolnshire. We deliver training to many different organisations, both statutory and non-statutory. We also co-ordinate a schools programme, delivering workshops to around 85% of the country's Primary & Secondary schools, and Youth Clubs.

Risky Behaviour is a one hour session which aims to increase students’ knowledge, skill base and capacity to make rational and informed choices in regards to socialising with alcohol and experimenting with drugs.  We explore:

  • the legality of alcohol
  • antisocial behaviour
  • potential for addiction
  • physical and psychological effects
  • suggest strategies for keeping safe while having a good time

This workshop also provides information on:

  • drinks spiking
  • rogue taxi drivers
  • recommended limits
  • safe sex
  • the legalities surrounding issues of consent
  • the challenges that arise when sexual consent is perceived to be given whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • how and where to access help if required

The Risky Behaviour workshop is highly interactive and involves use of group discussion, ‘a pickled liver’, beer goggles, condom demonstration and a highly visual PowerPoint Presentation.

Availability

The workshops are:

  • provided to all schools across the Lincolnshire County
  • appropriate for year 9 - 13 pupils
  • delivered to individual tutor groups or whole year groups
  • available to participate in Ace/Aspire Days
  • one hour long, unless otherwise stated, although can be extended with additional activities or shorted to fit lesson times
Benefits

The benefits of these workshops include:

  • examine contemporary issues surrounding drugs and alcohol:
    • increase in STIs and unwanted pregnancy:
    • spiking
    • issues of consent
    • interaction of alcohol and drugs
    • risks of sexual exploitation (including sexting) and grooming
    • interaction of alcohol and drugs
  • provide tools for keeping safe when drinking alcohol and/or using drugs:
    • legislation
    • alcohol poisoning
    • other problems that can cause death or serious injury
  • provide an understanding of the long term damage to future personal, social and economic prospects if involved with drugs - looks at legislation
  • provide tools to individuals which allow them to:
    • make safe choices
    • resist peer pressure
    • seek help and support, including signposting to local services
Cost

£60 per tutor group.  We are also available to deliver to youth groups and colleges; the cost of this will vary according to group size.  Some workshops can be delivered free of charge if your setting meets our funding criteria.
