Help with applying for a job

Disclosure and Barring Service checks

If you will be working with children and vulnerable adults, you may need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

The job advert will state what level of DBS check applies.

We will only ask you complete one if you are the successful candidate.

Your DBS application

If the role requires a DBS check, we will email you instructions on how to complete an application.

A DBS check can take some time, so it is important that you complete it as soon as possible.

You will need your National Insurance number.

If you already have DBS clearance

If your DBS certificate is the same type and level as the one required by us, we can perform a status check if:

  • you give us permission to
  • and, you have joined the update service

Find more information about the update service on GOV.uk.

A DBS check can be transferred between jobs within the county council if it meets our criteria. You must notify the recruitment team.

Your DBS check results

Your DBS certificate will be sent to your home address.

You must share this certificate with our recruitment team as soon as possible. You will not be able to start work with us until we receive it.
