Council Services:

Reading group service

Groups can use Lincolnshire libraries to borrower titles for their group by requesting titles themselves or by subscribing to the reading group service.

Lincolnshire libraries provide a subscription service (£30 per year, per group), supplying sets of books to reading groups.

How it works:

  • Subscribing groups choose 15 titles from the list in advance, for up to 12 meetings per year (due to library closures over Christmas & New Year titles cannot be supplied for meetings between the 17th December and the 14th January inclusive). This gives us flexibility in the supply of titles, given that some are in heavy demand
  • Titles may be supplied in any order; however, you will be told the title of your next book when your books are sent out for your current meeting
  • Library services provide up to 12 paperback copies (large print/talking books versions where available if needed)
  • Books delivered to your local library in time for your next meeting
  • To ensure titles arrive in time for meetings and the smooth running of the service, groups must return all their books by the date requested

  • 150 titles to choose from.
  • New titles added twice a year.
  • Suggestions for new titles to add to the list welcomed.
  • Large Print & Talking Book formats available subject to availability.

Enquiries from new groups are welcome. For further information, call 01522 552855 or e-mail

Reading groups borrowing direct from our libraries

Readers groups who are not able or willing to subscribe to our subscription service are able to choose and reserve copies of their required titles from Lincolnshire libraries, however, standard reservation and overdue fees apply.

Whilst Lincolnshire libraries aim to provide sufficient copies of any title to meet normal demand, we are not able to provide extra copies to meet the needs of individual reading groups and cannot guarantee that there will be sufficient copies in circulation and available to provide copies of their required title in time for their meeting. Groups are asked to check availability of stock when requesting titles.

Reading groups for visually-impaired people (VIPs)

VIP reading groups are hosted in Lincolnshire Libraries at Lincoln, Stamford, Bourne, Long Sutton, Louth, Mablethorpe, Skegness and Grantham. Contact your local Blind Society for further information.
