Race is on for Lincolnshire firefighters

7 March 2018

The race is on for Lincolnshire firefighters to complete a 75-mile distance to raise money for charity.

Some of the county’s newest recruits will be at Lincoln’s Waterside Shopping Centre on Saturday, March 10, when they plan to complete 75 miles using various aerobic machines.

Two teams of firefighters will be competing against each other, but hopefully the winner will be the charity itself with all money raised going to a good cause.

The event is being organised as part of the 75th anniversary of the Fire Fighters Charity which raises money for serving and former firefighters who may be experiencing difficulties.

The charity was first established to support bereaved families of firefighters killed during the blitz and has developed into a modern-day service that provides life-enhancing health and wellbeing support to the firefighting community.

Chief Fire Officer Nick Borrill said: “It is a big year for the Fire Fighters Charity, having reached 75 years, and it’s great to see so many people committing their time and energy to raise money for this cause.

“I’m sure there are many people who will join with me in supporting these new recruits, who are giving up their own time to raise money for a very important cause.

“And while the challenge allows for the whole year to complete the 75 miles the Lincolnshire recruits will be attempting to complete the distance in one day.

“Overall, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue will be attempting to raise £75k during the 2018/19 financial year in support of the charity.”
