Council Services:

Speed Checks

In April 2000 the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership took over the running of all speed cameras in the County. At the same time, the road network was assessed to see whether cameras could be used at new locations on other roads with higher than average collision and casualty levels.

Safety Camera operation in Lincolnshire is operated through a partnership between the following organisations:

  • Lincolnshire County Council
  • Lincolnshire Police
  • Highways England
  • Lincolnshire Magistrates' Courts

Through safety camera operation and other speed interventions the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership aims to reduce casualties caused by collisions where excessive or inappropriate speed was a factor.

To enable us to identify the scale of a problem and decide on the appropriate intervention speed readings are required to demonstrate that a speeding problem exists.

The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership works with local communities to identify potential locations throughout the county where vehicle speeds are a problem. We understand that both individuals and communities often believe that action is required and the Partnership is committed to alleviated concerns about actual and perceived speed related issues. We aim to provide a single point of contact for all public queries relating to speed complaints.

How to Report a Speed Complaint

Individuals with complaints regarding potential speed related problems should bring the matter to the attention of their Parish Council and request that they contact the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership on their behalf.

Complainants should provide as much information as possible on the nature of the problem. This may include:-

  • Problem location
  • Direction of travel where problem exists (if applicable)
  • Times when problem is most apparent
  • Supporting information (eg near to school etc)
  • Types of vehicle (such as motorbikes, Heavy Goods Vehicles etc where applicable)
  • Any previous communications regarding the problem

On receipt of the complaint from the Parish Council the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership will initiate the following;

  • Investigate collision history for this location
  • Complete a speed survey at the location for a minimum of five or seven (including a weekend) consecutive days
  • Provide a full breakdown of results to both the Parish Council and individual with initial concerns
  • Recommend the proper course of action to help alleviate any problem that may be revealed

The information that is provided to us will only be shared with those who need to know in order to investigate complainants concerns.
