Council Services:

A strong local voice

Opera singer Cllr Clio Perraton-Williams opens up about local life, council work - and her pink Vespa!

I love living in Lincolnshire! I’m originally from Brighton and moved up here from London in 2014. Before having my first child, I’d travelled around Europe as an opera singer.

Cllr Clio Perraton-Williams is the Conservative councillor for the Scotter Rural Division, and the executive support councillor for highways, transport and IT.She is married to Ashley, and they have two children – Floria, five, and Aldo, two. My husband and I set up a business in London looking after pets while their owners were out at work or on holiday. The company grew from strength to strength and eventually we realised we could run it from anywhere in the country, and decided to move somewhere more rural.

We bought a house in Gainsborough at auction three years ago, and spent two years refurbishing an almost derelict property into our new family home.

In London, I’d always been very community-minded, especially after my daughter was born, and I became involved in initiatives involving babies and young children.

When we moved here, playing an active role in local causes remained important to me. I sing for many events and charities, both in Lincolnshire and beyond. I’m also a director of local charity Pass it On and president of the Pyrus Pirates WI.

Becoming a councillor seemed a natural progression, and I was elected to Gainsborough Town Council in 2015. I became a county councillor in May, and have enjoyed how in-depth and interesting the work is, with everything meticulously researched so you can make the right decisions.

On a local level, I really enjoy talking to people and trying to help them with issues they would like resolving. I’ve discovered that the main hot topics in my division are flooding, potholes and grass cutting.

These matters are extremely relevant to me, having been appointed the executive support councillor for highways, transport and IT and working closely with the portfolio holder, Cllr Richard Davies. I’m really enjoying this - there are lots of fantastic projects coming up for Lincolnshire, and I’m excited to watch these progress.

I’m proud that we provide services such as CallConnect, which is a much-needed lifeline for people in remote areas. I get around my division as much as possible, and residents may have spotted me scootering on my pink Vespa. The area is absolutely gorgeous, and I never tire of seeing the wildlife on country lanes as I ride around.
