The road ahead in 2018

Next year will see significant progress on major road improvement schemes across the county

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “2017 has been a busy year for Lincolnshire’s highways team.

“Not only have we filled over 90,000 potholes since January, we’ve also broken ground on the Lincoln Eastern Bypass - the city’s biggest road project in decades.”

“Roads across the county have also been improved throughout the year - from widening Sutterton Roundabout in the south to £5m of highways resurfacing and reconstruction works in Bourne, Gainsborough, Bilsby, Grantham, Spilsby and many other places.”

Looking ahead, Cllr Davies said: “2018 is set to be even busier as we complete work on Peppermint Junction in Holbeach, Wragby Road in Lincoln andthe A17 Sleaford Bypass embankment.

“We’ll also continue building and developing schemes like bypasses for the eastern and southern parts of Lincoln, and relief roads for Grantham
and Spalding.

“To support our coastal resorts, we’ll be looking at improvements to the Lincolnshire Coastal Highway, including the best options for Horncastle.

“All these schemes won’t just help traffic flow more freely across the county, but they’ll also drive economic growth.

“Good roads are vital to unlocking developments that could potentially add millions to the local economy.

“And with long-term aspirations like the North Hykeham Relief Road also on the horizon, our county looks set to thrive for decades to come.”
