New Standards Regime
The Localism Act 2011 introduced significant changes to the standards regime from 1 July 2012.
Under the new arrangements, the Council has a duty to promote and maintain high standards of conduct for its elected members and co-opted members. Local arrangements for dealing with complaints were agreed by the Council at its meeting held on 18 May 2012 and at the same meeting the council adopted a new Code of Conduct for its members.
The new arrangements detail that the oversight of standards arrangements become a function of the Audit Committee.
