Council Services:

Data Protection

The Data Protection Act 1998 controls how your personal information is used by organisations, businesses or the government. Everyone responsible for using personal data has to follow strict rules called ‘data protection principles’.

Lincolnshire County Council has a duty to comply with the requirements of the Act as it collects personal data when conducting its business.

In the downloads section below you will find:

  • The Councils Data Protection Policy which is designed to support the Council in achieving compliance with the Act.
  • A privacy notice explaining how information is collected and processed by the Council.
  • The Councils Information Sharing Policy which is designed to support and facilitate effective and lawful sharing of information.

The Act also provides individuals with the right of access to personal records held by an organisation. You can apply to see what information the Council holds about you by making a subject access request.

Information about your rights under the Data Protection Act can be found on the Information Commissioner’s website.
