Lincoln Eastern Bypass update – Market Rasen Rail Bridge works progress as project team moves into Washingborough office

Archaeological investigations and Washingborough rail bridge works are nearing an end, with main construction works along the route ready to ramp up in the New Year.

What we achieved in November

  • Washingborough Road compound complete and project team fully moved in
  • Completed phase one of the street light ducting at Wragby Road
  • Started Hawthorn Chase surface water diversion
  • Completed piling for north and south supports of Market Rasen Bridge, along with support base for north-side of bridge
  • Completed Western Power Distribution diversions between north side of North Delph and Lincoln to Market Rasen Rail Line, along with duct crossing works on Heighington Road and Bloxholm Lane
  • Completed construction of temporary crossings at Canwick Fen and installed haul routes from the fen to the Lincoln to Spalding rail line, as well as to North Delph
  • Completed Virgin Media temporary diversion at Heighington Road
  • Started piling works in the in the low-headroom area of the Washingborough rail bridge supports
  • Reduced stone platforms near new Washingborough Road rail bridge, with the stone passed on to Carillion for use in construction of the bypass
  • Carried out packing, stressing and welding of the rail over the new bridge
  • Completed a large portion of archaeological investigations at key areas between north of Greetwell Road and Heighington Road and started investigations south of A158 Wragby Road roundabout and south of Heighington Road

What’s happening in December

  • Continue Hawthorn Chase water diversion and Wragby Road culvert
  • Installation of temporary fencing for topsoil storage
  • Construction of north-side support wall for Market Rasen bridge, along with breaking down south support piles
  • Complete construction of north-side North Delph haul route and piling platforms
  • Complete ramps over Canwick Fen and continue sheet piling near South Delph
  • Complete WPD ducting between Heighington Road and Washingborough Road and overhead diversion near Sheepwash Grange
  • Complete piling works in the in the low-headroom area of the Washingborough rail bridge supports
  • Continue work on Washingborough rail bridge support walls, including wingwalls and capping beams
  • Complete archaeological investigations in areas north of Greetwell Road, north of River Witham, south of Washingborough Rd, south of A158 / Wragby Road roundabout and south of Heighington Road
  • Continue archaeological investigations near Lincoln to Spalding rail line and start investigations on a small area north of A15 Sleaford Road

Current traffic restrictions and closures

  • Temporary 30mph limit on Washingborough Road for the duration of the works

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Permanent closure of Greetwell Field Lane from 15 January 2018
  • A temporary 20m diversion path on the Sustrans route along the River Witham will open in mid-December ahead of a longer 200m diversion path opening ahead of Christmas. This will be in use until mid-2019.
