Lincoln Eastern Bypass update – Washingborough rail bridge works nearly complete

Work on the Lincoln Eastern Bypass is back on track and well underway, as archaeological investigations, rail bridge construction and initial ground work to build the road itself continues.

What we achieved in January

  • Completed concrete slabs for east and west Washingborough rail bridge support walls
  • Completed two of four concrete wing walls, including excavation, steelwork, formwork and concrete, for Washingborough rail bridge
  • Completed excavation below Washingborough rail bridge
  • Install project scheme boards across the site
  • Continued construction of Market Rasen rail bridge
  • Completed archaeological investigations in areas of interest south of A158 Wragby Road roundabout and north of Bloxholme Lane), and continued investigations in areas north of Washingborough Road and south of the River Witham

What’s happening in February

  • Construct crossing points for construction equipment at Washingborough Road and Greetwell Road
  • Install permanent fencing across the site
  • Remove hedges and other vegetation across the site
  • Carry out duct work for WPD cables
  • Complete construction of all remaining concrete support walls, including wing walls, for Washingborough rail bridge
  • Complete construction of access staircases for Washingborough rail bridge
  • Begin installation of handrail and fencing at Washingborough rail bridge
  • Commence removal of soil, dirt and rubble resulting from excavations at Washingborough rail bridge
  • Completion archaeological investigations south of the River Witham, and continue investigations north of Washingborough Road

Current traffic restrictions and closures

  • Temporary 30mph speed limit on Washingborough Road and Greetwell Road
  • Temporary 200m path diversion on the Sustrans route along the River Witham
  • Closure of the Public Right of Way near Hawthorne Chase for Anglian Water sewer pipe diversions; however, the play park at Hawthorn Chase will remain open

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Full closure of Washingborough Road from 12 to 16 February
