Lincolnshire adoption case features on national radio show 'World at One'

Includes interviews with the council’s adoption team and the social workers

BBC Radio 4 is featuring Lincolnshire’s children’s services in the search for new adoptive parents for a brother and sister taken into care.

Show starts on ‘World at One’ 23 October

Called ‘The Adoption’, it starts on World at One on Monday, 23 October with an update to the story every day over three weeks.

The feature includes interviews with the council’s adoption team and the social workers looking to find a new family for 3-year old Bethany and 2-year old Ben following a Court decision that they needed to be adopted.

The thoughts and experiences of the children’s parents, grandparents and foster carer are also included as the BBC spent a year and a half on the project in Lincolnshire going through the process of what happens in an adoption case.

It also highlights adoption from the point of view of a typical adoptive family. The couple featured who go on to adopt Bethany and Ben show what’s involved and the real rewards and challenges that adopting children can bring.

Councillor Mrs Patricia Bradwell, executive councillor for children’s services, said:

“Our adoption service is highly rated by Ofsted and we were keen to take the opportunity to bring the adoption process alive and show the real life experiences of those involved in an adoption case, one of thousands that occur throughout the country every year.”

Anne Johnson, adoption team manager, added:

“As well as a real life experience of adoption from all sides, I hope it will encourage new applicants to come forward and consider giving a loving home to children in need of an adoptive family. As in this case, we are particularly short of adopters for brothers and sisters, who we always aim to keep together.”
