Children's Centre Activities

We offer a wide range of activities for children aged 0 - 5 years (0 - 8 years in school holidays).

These sessions are designed to help your baby and toddler develop their social skills and engage with other children and the world around them.

Note: Some sessions require booking, or are only available at some centres, see your local centre timetable for more information.

Activities

Adult Learning

Most centres will offer a variety of adult learning courses throughout the year, these can include courses such as first aid, cookery, crafts, literacy and cv skills.

Antenatal

Practitioners will work with parents during the antenatal and postnatal periods, supporting parents to reflect on their developing baby with helpful advice and information.

Big Cook, Little Cook

A chance to promote healthy lifestyles with your child in a fun way as well as cooking up affordable and nutritious food to share. All food made during the session is taken home.

Breastfeeding Groups and Support

Whether you are finding it a breeze or having some problems these groups provide a relaxed environment for breastfeeding mothers to chat ad share their experiences. Some sessions may have a health visitor present who will be on hand if you would like professional advice and support.

Childminder Groups

A chance for childminders and other carers to meet and use the centre facilities as well as take part in fun indoor and outdoor activities.

Come and Play (sometimes known as Stay and Play)

A chance for you and your child to play together and discover a range a different play activities which promote independence,confidence and social skills.

Dad’s Group

Often held on a Saturday this group is for dad’s, stepdad’s, granddads and any other male carers. The sessions include crafts, outdoor play and messy activities.

Growing Talk (Toddling and Talking Tots)

Listen to your child’s talking Grow as they sing along to their favourite rhymes. They ride on a magic carpet, sprinkle magic dust and meet Mikey our resident puppet.

Health Visitors and Clinics

These sessions offer the chance to book an appointment with the health visitor as well as offering baby weighing (not offered at all centres) advice on breastfeeding or weaning and much more.

Learning Together

Learning together sessions are divided into baby, tweenie, toddler, pre-school and family. Sessions are fun and include talk time, stories, songs and play activities. This activity supports you as parents’ and carers to get the best out of playing and learning with your child.

Let’s Get Active

A chance for your children to have lots of fun whilst taking part in active play. They will develop their physical skills in a fun and interactive way to encourage healthy growth.

Little Explorers

Play and exploration using lots of different messy materials which can be found in the home. This will stimulate your child’s senses and give them an opportunity to discover a range of materials. All of the activities contribute to developing your child’s everyday skills. Don’t forget to bring a set of clean clothes!

Movers and Shakers

A session based on exploration with different elements including messy play, music, movement, physical play and sensory.

Parent Forums

A chance for parents to have an active role in organising trips and events held at the children’s centre.

Rhyme Time

Session with rhyme and song to promote early communication, in a fun and interactive session involving puppets and props.

Story Box

Session to support children’s reading and understanding stories. They will be able to use their imagination and use or make props to bring the story to life. Story sacks will be available to loan to take home every week.
