Council Services:

Personal Budgets

By September 2014 all children and young people who have an Education, Health and Care Plan will be able to request a personal budget.

A personal budget is an amount of money identified by the local authority to deliver parts of the provision set out in an EHC Plan. The aim of a personal budget is to give the family some choice over outcomes for the child/young person. Currently we are looking at:

  • Direct payment - funding direct to the family to personally manage to support the outcome as set out in the EHC plan
  • Managed budget - where the local authority manages the budget on behalf of the family
  • Provider funded - for example a school or voluntary service
  • Or as a mix of the three options above
