Council Services:

Winners of 2010 Good Citizens Award

Lincolnshire County Council’s Young Citizen of the Year 2010.

Winner: James Brown, Carlton le Moorland

James is an asset to the village. He is always there to lend a hand cutting the grass and keeping the village looking clean by picking up litter. James often helps to organise projects to raise awareness in the village, delivers the newspapers and is involved in organising fair play football tournaments.

He is a member of the youth and police community panel and for the past three years he has assisted the team in youth related projects such as the junior crime fighters summer holiday programme which helped to dramatically reduced anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in the area.

James is always happy to help and is beyond his years in maturity, he really deserves this recognition for his constant hard work and dedication to village life.

Runner-up: Rhianna Jeffrey, Louth

Although Rhianna does not typically meet the criteria for the Good Citizens Awards, when we heard her story we really wanted to honour her bravery and positivity in the face of numerous challenges. Sadly Rhianna lost her fight against long-term illness and passed away just before she was able to collect her award but her family bravely attended on her behalf.

Rhianna was been diagnosed with two very rare life threatening illnesses, aplastic anaemia (where the body attacks itself and eats its own immune system) and polyarteritis nodosa (where the body doesn’t make enough red blood cells. She received blood transfusions every two weeks and had to experience intense chemotherapy.

Despite all of the treatment and pain she experienced she was a happy normal twelve-year-old girl and is so positive that she kept all the families spirits up.

Rhianna is an example to us all and we feel we would like to mark her attitude to life and bravery with this award.
