Council Services:

Flood Investigations

Local Highways Managers Map

Investigating Incidents of Flooding:-

Since 2007 the County Council has been working with all of its partners, through the Local Flood Risk and Drainage Management Groups, to investigate and resolve flooding incidents where we can.
From April 2012 the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 required that:-

On becoming aware of a flood in its area, a Lead Local Flood Authority must, to the extent that it considers it necessary or appropriate, investigate:-

  • (a) which Risk Management Authorities have relevant flood risk management functions; and
  • (b) whether each of those Risk Management Authorities has exercised, or is proposing to exercise, those functions in response to the flood.

Where any Authority carries out an investigation it must:-

  • (a) publish the results of its investigation; and
  • (b) notify any relevant Risk Management Authorities.

In respect of considering the “necessity” or “appropriateness” of investigations, the County Council will give priority to investigating incidents of flooding where one or more properties have been affected.
In accordance with the requirement to publish the results of investigations, the outcomes of the various current and historical flood investigations are provided in the ‘Downloads’ section below. Also in accordance with the Act, the relevant Risk Management Authorities are notified either directly or through the Local Flood Risk and Drainage Management Groups.
