Works to Manage Flood Risk

The Flood and Water Management Act 2010 gives the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) powers to carry out works to manage the risk of flooding from surface water, ground water and ordinary watercourses.

The Joint Lincolnshire Flood Risk and Drainage Management Strategy sets out how the Lead Local Flood Authority intends to work in partnership with other Risk Management Authorities (RMA) to manage flood risk. It is in three parts, with Part 3 being the Action Plan.

The Action Plan is updated each year, and lists all works by the various RMA to manage flood risk. These works can be part of the routine responsibilities of the RMA, such as maintaining watercourses and other assets, or specific flood risk management schemes carried out by the LLFA on its own or in partnership with others. This is known as the Common Works Programme.

The County Council does not receive additional funding for these works, and future funding is expected to be constrained. With demand for schemes likely to exceed resources, the Joint Lincolnshire Flood Risk and Drainage Management Strategy is also used to prioritise schemes.
