County Council Planning Functions

All other planning functions not listed here are the responsibility of District Councils. These include most planning applications and Local Plans.

The County Council as local planning authority has responsibilities for the Preparation of Statutory Plans and Development Management/Control:

(1) Preparation of Statutory Planning Documents, as follows:

  • Minerals Local Plan
  • Waste Local Plan

Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004

  • Local Development Scheme
  • Minerals and Waste Local Plan
                             - Core Strategy
                             - Site Locations
  • Statement of Community Involvement
  • Annual Monitoring Report

(2) Development Management/Control, as follows:

  • Minerals Extraction
  • Waste Disposal
  • County Council Development e.g. new roads and schools

Responsibility for this area of work lies within the Spatial Planning Group in Communities.
