Council Services:

Land Charge Searches

When buying or leasing land or property, a land charge search is usually performed. This is to ascertain whether or not there are any charges on the property as well as establishing that it is served by a public highway and what, if any, future developments are taking place close by.

This service is available to all those purchasing a property and for information on carrying out a personal search.

The fees for highway searches are as per the attached Schedule of Fees. Please contact your District Council for their fees.

Please note due to the HMRC ruling, VAT may soon be charged on all CON29 requests. The implementation date for this has been delayed - further information will be available on this page in due course.

Accessing the service

A Solicitor would usually request a search for a buyer using standard forms LLC1 (Search of Land Charges Register) and CON29 (Enquiries of Local Authority) submitted to the District Council. Fees are payable to the District for this service. Some solicitors use private search companies to carry out the search.

Lincolnshire County Council, as Highway Authority, holds highway information required on Land Charges for the seven Districts of Lincolnshire. These are North Kesteven District Council, South Kesteven District Council, West Lindsey District Council, East Lindsey District Council, Boston Borough District Council, South Holland District Council and the City of Lincoln Council.

Lincolnshire County Council is required to supply highway information for the CON29 form: (Issued July 2016).

Personal searches of highway records

Some information is available to inspect free of charge.

If you would like to inspect the records you will need to formally request an appointment by contacting the Traffic Orders and Searches Team as given below.
