Our secondary school and college sessions build on the knowledge gained in primary school, helping young people understand the risks they face as they become more independent road users. Sessions encourage students to recognise hazards, make informed decisions and develop safer behaviours as pedestrians, passengers and future drivers.
Years 7 and 8 – Stay Safe Days
Format: Presenter-led
Our Year 7 and Year 8 road safety sessions are delivered in partnership with the Stay Safe Partnership as part of their Stay Safe Days programme for secondary schools.
- Year 7 – Causation Factors: An introduction to the main causes of road traffic collisions and how safer choices can help prevent them.
- Year 8 – Road Traffic Collision Investigation: An interactive session exploring how road traffic collisions happen and the factors that contribute to them.

Year 10 – Young Passenger Awareness
Format: Presenter-led assembly
This interactive session helps students understand the responsibilities and risks of travelling as passengers, particularly with newly qualified drivers. It explores how peer influence can affect decision-making and introduces the Fatal Five road safety factors:
- speeding
- mobile phone use
- drink or drug driving
- not wearing a seatbelt
- careless driving
Students will learn to:
- recognise unsafe situations when travelling by car
- understand their role in keeping themselves and others safe
- make informed decisions as passengers
- encourage safer behaviour among their peers
Year 11 – Driver Ready Programme
Format: Teacher-led online course
Available during the 2026/27 academic year, the Driver Ready programme has been developed in partnership with Youth Road Safety Education UK to help prepare young people for driving before they begin learning.
The free six-week course includes one online module each week and can be delivered by schools during the Autumn 2026 or Spring 2027 terms.
Topics include:
- understanding risk, decision-making and teenage brain development
- hazard perception and scanning techniques
- speed, stopping distances and road conditions
- distraction, overtaking and driving under pressure
- fatigue and journey planning
- the effects of alcohol and drugs on driving
- passenger responsibility and safer decision-making

Years 12 and 13 – The Fatal Five
Format: Presenter-led assembly
This session explores the Fatal Five behaviours that contribute to the majority of serious and fatal road traffic collisions:
- speeding
- not wearing a seatbelt
- distraction
- drink or drug driving
- careless driving
Using real-life examples and discussion, students explore how these behaviours affect young drivers and passengers aged 17 to 24, both nationally and across Lincolnshire.
Students will:
- understand the legal, personal and long-term consequences of risky behaviour
- explore how the Fatal Five can affect a driver's judgement, behaviour and ability
- consider how safer choices can help prevent serious collisions
Duration: 1 hour
Suitable for Year 12 and Year 13 students, colleges and universities (up to 200 attendees).
