This project aims to ease town centre congestion and encourage more people to travel sustainably by walking, cycling or using buses.
The programme of work includes:
- improvements to the A52 Roman Bank
- improvements to cycle paths, footpaths, and links
- enhanced Skegness to Gibraltar Point footpath and cycle path
- improved public transport facilities
- improved information and signs

Aims and benefits
The project aims and benefits are to:
- support the growth of East Coast tourism and encourage new business
- alleviate town centre congestion
- encourage active lifestyles through the promotion of cycling and walking
- develop sustainable transport options for visitors and residents
- create more reliable and efficient highways and public transport network
- create new jobs during the construction phase and beyond
Cost and funding
The project cost £5.7m to complete and was funded as follows:
- £4m from Greater Lincolnshire LEP Growth Deal
- £1.7m from Lincolnshire County Council
Timeline
- March 2014: Greater Lincolnshire LEP Growth Deal funding provisionally agreed
- May 2016: Greater Lincolnshire LEP funding agreement agreed and signed
- September 2016: Construction of new-and-improved Gibraltar Point footway/cycleway begins
- September 2016: A52 Roman Bank bus and cycle lane improvement works begin
- November 2016: Roman Bank bus layby extension in Ingoldmells complete
- December 2016: Improvements to three Lumley Road bus stops complete
- March 2017: Walls Lane bus stop improvements complete
- June 2017: Cycle path from Butlin's to North Shore Road upgraded
- September 2017: Construction of Winthorpe Avenue cycleway begins
- November 2017: A52 to Spirewic Avenue and Old Roman Bank footways/cycleways complete
- November 2017: Sea Lane/Roman Bank resurfacing and crossing point widening completed
- December 2017: Construction of two new accessible bus stops and improved footway links
- May 2018: Roman Bank foot and cycle path upgrades complete
- October 2018: Junction remodelling at Scarbrough Avenue/Roman Bank
- September 2019: Construction of Phase 4B of Gibraltar Point footway/cycleway begins
- December 2019: Go Skegness project comes to a successful end
