Council Services:

Lincoln Eastern Bypass Open Weekend

Join Lincolnshire County Council and its Lincoln Eastern Bypass partners and contractors for an open weekend that will include information about the scheme, archaeological finds and tours of thescheme’s Washingborough Road site, where over 70,000 artefacts from up to 12,000 years of the county’s history have been unearthed.

Please be aware that temporary two-way traffic signals will be in place on Canwick Hill, between Hall Drive and School Lane, over this weekend. This is to allow the installation of a gas and electricity supply to the International Bomber Command site. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

  • 10th and 11th June, 9:30am to 5pm
  • Canwick Village Hall, Montagu Rd, Canwick, LN4 2RW

Book Archaeology Tour(All tours are now fully booked)

In addition to Washingborough Road site tours, visitors can meet representatives from Lincolnshire County Council, Carillion Construction, Network Archaeology and others organisations to discuss the bypass scheme and better understand what goes into constructing such a large piece of infrastructure.

Archaeological tours will set off from the hall every 30-60 minutes starting at 10:15am, with the final tour starting at 3:15pm. Each tour will last 75 minutes. Sturdy footwear is required and a waterproof jacket is recommended as tours will take place rain or shine. Spaces are limited and should be booked in advance by clicking the button above.

At the hall, the open weekend will also include refreshments, information about the road construction scheme and the archaeological work, displays of archaeological finds, and activities.

All those attending are asked to park at Canwick Playing Fields off of Heighington Road, as the hall’s car park will be blocked off.

The Lincoln Eastern Bypass project aims to minimise traffic congestion, support Lincoln’s growth as a principal urban centre, and enhance the inter-city environment. The project is on programme to open during Autumn 2019.
