Council Services:

Newark Road/Rookery Lane/Brant Road/ Hykeham Road junctions improvements

This scheme is now complete.

About the scheme

The Council promoted the improvement of the Newark Road/Rookery Lane/Brant Road/ Hykeham Road junctions to reduce congestion, improve traffic flows, reduce travelling duration through the junctions and improve safety of pedestrians and cyclists. In conjunction with these works LCC carried out essential maintenance to the highway network between Maple Street and Doddington Road and the road bridge between Brant Road and Rookery Lane.

Briefly the following works were carried out:

  • Signalised junction improvement at Newark Road/Brant Road;
  • Signalised junction improvement at Newark Road/Rookery Lane and Hykeham Road;
  • Improved vehicle lane designations;
  • Widening of Brant Road to accommodate an additional left turn lane;
  • A right turn lane in to DeWint Avenue from Newark Road;
  • Reconstruction the carriageway between Maple Street and Doddington Road;
  • Improved pedestrian/cyclist crossing facilities at junctions;
  • Improved pedestrian/cyclist safety;
  • Improved street lighting at the junctions;
  • Essential bridge maintenance.

Following the completion of the scheme, informal monitoring of traffic flows has shown a notable improvement particularly for traffic leaving Lincoln city centre. It is expected that the flows will continue to improve as the signalling equipment adjusts itself to optimise flows.

Pinchpoint 2 Funding

The scheme has been co-funded by the County Council and the Department for Transport under their Pinchpoint 2 funding.
