Crisis payments provide emergency support for low-income households experiencing a financial shock that places immediate pressure on household finances. 

Lincolnshire’s district councils are delivering a Crisis Payments schemes. If your district council is:

A crisis payment could be awarded where you have experienced financial shock. Which is a sudden, unexpected expense or drop in income, that can place pressure on your budget and wellbeing 

Examples may include:

  • loss or reduction of employment income
  • unexpected household expenses
  • increased housing or utility costs
  • accident, health emergency or mental health crisis, leading to unplanned spending or increased expenses
  • other unforeseen circumstances that create an immediate financial crisis 

Who can apply?

The fund is for low-income for households who are unable to meet essential needs due to financial shock.

To be eligible, applicants will need to:

  • be a resident of the local authority area
  • be aged 18 or over
  • have a household income of less than £36,000
  • have less than £6,000 in savings
  • be responsible for their own household expenses
  • experienced a recent financial shock
  • provide proof of circumstance and household finances

Local discretion may be applied, due to household’s circumstances or need.

Fund provided support

Support will be awarded will depending on your circumstances and the outcome of the assessment.

Awards will be given to help meet essential needs and provide short-term stability.

The Crisis and Resilience Fund is not intended to provide regular income.

How applications are assessed

When applying, you will be asked about:

  • household circumstances
  • income from earnings, pensions and benefits
  • essential expenditure and financial commitments
  • the financial shock and crisis that has been experienced
  • the impact the situation is having on individuals and the household
  • any steps already taken to resolve the issue

The application process will ask for evidence to be provided on household income, expenditure and debts, including bank statements.

Providing accurate and detailed information will help applications be assessed as quickly as possible. 

Recipients of Crisis Payments will be referred to appropriate countywide or local financial resilience services.
