1. The Scheme is monitored by pre and post intervention using VivaCity sensor technology, allowing detailed evidence to be collected over the long-term. This evidence will support the County Councils ability to attract future funding for similar schemes and provide direct insights to the potential benefits for residents in the local area. The system does not cover the whole route only Forge Close, Spalding, Pinchbeck Road (by Vernatts Bridge), Spalding and Knight Street, Pinchbeck.
2. A Road Safety Audit has been completed as part of the scheme. This has given a recommendation for improvements which have been implemented as part of the scheme.
3. Cyclists are required to adhere to the Highway Code which provides clear rules for cyclists, covering safe riding practices, legal obligations, and guidance on interacting with other road users.
4. Under the UK Highway Code, cyclists are expected to approach areas where conflicts may occur, such as driveways, side roads, and shared-use areas, with due care and be prepared to slow down or stop if necessary. As part of the scheme there will be appropriate signage along the route.
5. The Active Travel England (ATE) Active Mode Appraisal Toolkit (AMAT) was used to determine the benefits of the scheme through healthcare savings, wider impacts and return on investment.
6. The 3 sensors have not yet been in situ for a full 365 days to provide a year-long analysis of cycling trips as part of the Spalding Active Travel Scheme. We have provided below an analysis of the most recent 3 months of data (1st June 2026 - 31st August 2026). These show a consistent average of 599 cycling trip counts per day which over the course of a 7-day week, a total average count of 4217 cycling trips.
7. The funding for the Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel Scheme is from Active Travel England’s ‘Active Travel Fund 3’. The route between Spalding and Pinchbeck was identified as a priority route for network infrastructure improvements in the Local Cycling and Walking Network Plan, a document for which various stakeholder groups such as South Holland District Council and community advocacy groups, PEDALS were engaged.
