Introduction

Sexually Transmitted Infections is an in-depth one hour session, which aims to increase students' knowledge and awareness of the most commonly diagnosed STI’s in Lincolnshire at this present time. The course is suitable for KS3 and 4 students.

This training could be used as evidence towards helping you achieve SMSC.

Outcomes

Service Description

Positive Health Lincolnshire is a provider of sexual health and wellbeing workshops across Lincolnshire.  We work in partnership with Lincolnshire Contraceptive and Sexual Health Service, Public Health Lincolnshire and Healthy Schools Lincolnshire. We deliver training to many different organisations, both statutory and non-statutory. We also co-ordinate a schools programme, delivering workshops to around 85% of the country's Primary and Secondary schools, and Youth Clubs.

This workshop also provides information on risky behaviour, transmission routes, permanent damage to fertility, the C-Card scheme and using effective barrier methods of protection.

Availability

The sessions are:

  • available to all schools in Lincolnshire
  • appropriate for year 9 to 13 pupils
  • delivered to individual tutor groups or whole year groups
  • available to participate in Ace or Aspire Days
  • one hour long, unless otherwise stated, although can be extended with additional activities or shorted to fit lesson times
Benefits

The sessions:

  • examines STI’s in detail, transmission routes, symptoms and treatments
  • promote a sense of responsibility for looking after their own sexual health through discussion of the necessity of using barrier contraception, regardless of sexuality
  • explore misconceptions of stereotypes of those most at risk of contracting STI’s and highlights factors of risky sexual behaviour which increase STI risk
  • provide information which will empower students to make positive, informed choices about contraception throughout life taking into account changes in contraception needs, depending on life or relationship stage and faith or cultural practices
  • provide information of how/where to ask for help, including signposting to local services and empowers students to access support
Cost

The cost of workshops for schools in Lincolnshire is £60 per tutor group.  We are also available to deliver to youth groups and colleges. The cost of this will vary according to group size.  Some workshops can be delivered free of charge if your setting meets our funding criteria.
