Where the number of applications is more than the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied in the order set out below, to decide which children to admit.
- Looked after children and all previously looked after children, including those children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
- Up to 30 children selected by academic ability, having taken the 11+ selection tests.
- There is a sibling at the academy who will still be attending when the child is due to start.
- Straight line distance from the child’s home address to the academy, priority given to those living nearest.
If distance is not sufficient to distinguish between applicants for the last place then a lottery will be conducted.

- Children of all staff groups, where the member of staff has been employed at King Edward VI Academy on a permanent contract for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to King Edward VI Academy is made or where the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post at King Edward VI Academy for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
- Straight line distance from the child’s home address to the academy, priority given to those living nearest.
If distance is not sufficient to distinguish between applicants for the last place then a lottery will be conducted.

The minimum qualification for entry into the Sixth Form is 5Cs (or equivalent) at GCSE including English and Maths. If an applicant meets these criteria they will be eligible for consideration for a sixth form place.All students in the current Year 11 at the academy who meet the academic entry criteria will continue into the Sixth Form, if they wish. Students with an Education, Health and Care Plan where King Edward VI Academy is named in the Plan will be admitted.
If there are more applications from external candidates than places available, offers will be made in the order of the oversubscription criteria listed below:
1. Looked after children and all previously looked after children, including those children who appear to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. Children with a sibling, including step-siblings resident at the same address, currently at either academy who will continue to do so on the date of admission.
3. Children of all staff groups, where the member of staff has been employed at Havelock Academy (or King Edward VI Academy for the Spilsby site) on a permanent contract for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to Havelock Academy (or King Edward VI Academy for the Spilsby site) is made or where the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post at Havelock Academy (or King Edward VI Academy for the Spilsby site) for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
4. Straight line distance from home to academy, with the applicant living nearer to the academy having priority. This would be the tie-breaker if necessary.
If distance is not sufficient to distinguish between applicants for the last place then a lottery will be conducted.
