Why we collect information about you
  • to provide general advice to the public on community safety and emergencies
  • to reduce crime, disorder and offending in the community
  • tackling antisocial behaviour, domestic abuse, modern slavery, sexual exploitation and extremism or radicalisation
  • supporting prevention, early intervention and rehabilitation
  • planning and preparing for emergency situations
  • to assess risks and capabilities for responding to emergency situations
  • managing emergencies, including debriefing and reviewing lessons learned following both major and minor incidents
  • undertaking training exercises and developing business continuity plans
  • supporting community resilience
What type of information we may collect
  • name, date of birth, address and other contact information
  • details of your social and/or economic status
  • details of alleged and convicted criminal offences

We may also process some special category (sensitive) data such as:

  • health data
  • race or ethnic origin
  • religious or philosophical beliefs
  • political views and affiliations
  • sex life or sexual orientation, including gender identification
Lawful bases for processing information about you
  • necessary to comply with a legal obligation
  • necessary to perform a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority
  • necessary for reasons of substantial public interest
How we may collect your information
  • provided directly by you when you access services from the council
  • provided by other members of the public
  • provided by another organisation involved in the provision of services, such as other local authorities, district councils, emergency services and other law enforcement agencies

  • organisations and professionals involved in the provision of services, such as health and social care
  • other local authorities and central government
  • National Probation Service
  • Ministry of Justice
  • police forces, other law enforcement and prosecuting authorities
  • courts and tribunals
  • voluntary and charitable organisations
How long we hold your information for

We are required to retain your information for as long as is necessary, after which it will be securely destroyed.
