Why we collect information about you
  • when determining planning applications and associated developments, waste management proposals and development sites (including the council’s own developments)
  • when recording and responding to planning applications or appeals
  • when recording your comments on a planning application or appeal
  • when you request planning advice
  • when you request a screening and/or scoping opinion
  • when recording comments on policy and/or supplementary planning documents
  • when recording and responding to reports of unauthorised development and/or breaches of planning control
  • for the purpose of enforcing compliance or taking formal enforcement action or prosecutions
  • to maintain planning registers
What type of information we may collect
  • personal information such as name, address and contact information
  • property and land ownership
  • financial information
  • details of alleged and convicted criminal offences

We may also process some special category (sensitive) data such as:

  • physical or mental health details where it is provided in support of or in an objection to a planning application or representation
  • religious and other beliefs
Lawful bases for processing information about you
  • necessary to comply with a legal obligation
  • necessary to perform a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority
  • necessary for reasons of substantial public interest
How we may collect your information
  • provided to us directly by you
  • provided to us by others involved in planning such as planning applicants, agents, consultants or the Planning Inspectorate
Who we may share your information with
  • the general public. For example the personal information of planning applicants, agents or consultants will be displayed publicly when you submit, support or comment on a planning application or appeal.
  • legal advisors acting on our behalf
  • the Environment Agency
  • other enforcement agencies, local authorities or professional bodies involved in the planning process.
How long we hold your information for

We are required to retain your information for as long as is necessary, after which it will be securely destroyed.
