Lincoln - Cycling in Lincolnshire


Circular, on quiet roads, disused railway lines and on and off road cycle paths.

  1. Follow the National Cycle Network (NCN) 64 away from Brayford Pool, along Brayford Wharf North, (signed Whisby and Newark). Continue along to the Pyewipe Inn.
  2. Cross the car park, and go under the main road, then turn left to a bridge over the Foss Dyke. Follow the old railway line for four miles (6.5km), to the edge of Harby village. Turn left off the old railway line.
  3. Turn right onto Station Road, fo follow NCN 64 to Whisby. In Harby, turn left (signed Eagle) and turn left onto Church Road.
  4. At the Crossroads at Eagle Moor, turn right (signed Eagle).
  5. In Eagle, turn left (signed Thorpe on the Hill).
  6. At the crossroads in Thorpe on the Hill, go straight on (signed Lincoln).
  7. After 1km turn left into Whisby Nature Park.

    You have two options to return to Lincoln. Option one uses off road, then road cycle path, the second uses country lanes, then along the old railway line.

Option one -

8. On leaving Whisby nature park turn left, then turn right to Thorpe on the Hill.

9. At the T-junction, turn right and then turn left (signed Haddington and NCN 93 Lincoln).

10. Cross over the A46, turn left following NCN 93 Lincoln. At the A46 turn right and follow the cycle track along the A46.

11. At the roundabout follow the path side cycle track  (signed NCN 93 Lincoln).

12. After three miles (five km), turn left through the car park of the Plough pub to continue along the NCN 93 (signed City Centre).

13. After two miles, turn left at the junction with Firth Road, and then turn right at the roundabout. Just before the traffic lights turn left along the cycle path. Cross Tritton Road to the go right along the cycle path.

At the traffic lights at the junction of Brayford Way and Carholme Road turn left, then left again along Holmes Road.

Turn left to go under the road and return to Brayford Pool.

Option two- 

8. On leaving Whisby nature park turn left, then turn right to Thorpe on the Hill.

14. At the T-junction in Thorpe on the Hill, turn right (signed Whisby).

15. At the crossroads, continue straight on (signed Whisby).

16. At Whisby crossroads, go straight on (signed Doddington).

17. At the crossroads, turn right (signed Skellingthorpe).

18. Continue straight on at the crossroads (signed Skellingthorpe).

19. In Skellingthorpe, go over the railway bridge and turn left along the track beside the road (signed NCN 64), then turn left (signed Lincoln).

At the T-junction with the old railway line, turn left (signed Lincoln).

Follow the old railway line and NCN 64 back to Brayford Pool.
