Lincolnshire County Council’s Schools and Academies Internal Audit team provide internal audit services to all maintained nursery, primary, secondary and special schools in Lincolnshire. We also offer consultancy assurance services to academy schools.
We have a dedicated audit team who have a background of working in schools and academies. We have a practical knowledge and experience of the many risks and challenges facing schools.
Our role as internal auditors is to provide an independent and objective opinion on governance effectiveness and oversight, risk management and HR and financial processes in place at your school. Our aim is to support the school and to provide assurance to the Senior Leadership Team and Governors that the school are delivering in line with policies and following best practice
Our audits are delivered using a supportive and collaborate approach. The overarching purpose behind our service is to improve your control environment and identify potential efficiencies whilst ensuring this supports your school’s objectives and strategy. An assurance audit will result in an action plan aligned to your school’s individual context whilst addressing any areas of risk.
We offer the following packages:
Full internal audit
We recommend schools have a full audit approximately every three years. The length of the audit will generally be six working days; however, this will depend on the scope of the assignment and depth of testing required within each setting.
Our audits use discussion, review and sample testing to provide assurance over a range of governance and assurance matters.
A full audit includes the following areas:
- governance arrangements
- budget preparation and monitoring
- HR processes and payroll
- purchasing and asset management
- procurement/credit cards
- income collection and banking
- debtors
- management of the school fund
School prime account audit
Provides audit sign off and improvement recommendations for prime account schools. For schools operating a prime account system we will also cover financial returns, petty cash, bank reconciliation and payments in addition to the full audit listed areas.
School fund audit
We carry out a financial audit of private funds associated with the school.
